Tours

On Friday 24 November, you will have the opportunity to take part in one of the following tours:

(Please note that it is not possible to pre-register for the tours. Registration for the tours will take place on site during the conference on a first come, first served basis. Two of the three tours have limited places available).

Dance Elderly and Wellbeing

Departure from University at 9:30am
Return bus leaves Selwyn Village at 11:30am

We will travel by bus to Selwyn Village Retirement Home at Point Chevalier. We will depart from the University at 9.30am. This bus trip is 20 minutes long.

At Selwyn Village we will participate in a 45-60 minute dance/movement workshop. Conference participants will interact with the residents and join in on the session. The Dance/movement session will be led by Carlene Newall de Jesus (Doctoral candidate) who is completing her research on dance pedagogy and elderly with early on set dementia.

After the session we will return to the University. During the afternoon keynote Carlene will speak to the morning workshop.

Mapura Studios

Departure from University at 10:00am
Return bus leaves Mapura Studios at 12:00pm

We will travel by bus (20 minutes) to Mapura Studios. Here we will meet with artists and musicians who are offering arts therapy programmes to young people. You will be able to talk about the real issues informing the delivery of the programme, while also observing the facilities at the centre.

We will depart from the University at 9am. After our 60 minute visit we will return to University for the afternoon presentations, keynote and book launch with wine and snacks reception.

Art Walk to Harbour

Departure from University at 9:30am
Return to University by 12:30pm

We will walk to Professor Michael Te Rakato Parekowhai’s public sculpture, ‘Lighthouse’ on Queens Wharf, Auckland Harbour. Michael will meet you at the sculpture and talk to his process and product. Associate Professor Nuala Gregory will lead the tour from the Owen Glen Building, departing at 9.30am. Nuala will direct you to other public sculptures and interesting city hotspots.
